Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
