The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
