Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year following instigating disrespectful taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. His lengthy spell at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Previous Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
