Outrage Erupts as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Widespread Backlash

Personalities from both sides of the political spectrum and the Hollywood world are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking deaths of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on social media to describe the late director as "anguished and suffering". In a post, he claimed Reiner's death was "due to the anger he caused others through his massive, relentless, and incurable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Detention

Police have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in connection with the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant sum.

A Torrent of Criticism from Public Figures

The response to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

This is a disgusting and vile comment,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the remarks. Goldberg referenced prior comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any worse?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "This is a disturbed man."

Echoing this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just lost it. Now saying the Reiners brought on their own murder because they opposed him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

A number of GOP elected officials also expressed dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also alluded to challenges with substance abuse and mental health within families.

Another Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly dared members in his party to justify the comments.

The Director's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump be reelected to power.

"We see autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation following the killing of a different political figure.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the anecdote of the session, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
