Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
